    Responsibilities

    This role leads Oportun’s HR team in Leon, Mexico.  The individual will be the business partner working with and advising the senior leadership of the organization based in Mexico. Will also act as a subject matter expert helping to move the organization forward through programs and initiatives aimed at attracting, retaining and engaging highly talented people. The Head of People also ensures the effective and efficient delivery of HR services throughout the organization in partnership with Global People and Culture team. The HR team’s major areas of focus include meeting the ongoing growth demands of the business and expanding employee population with a culture that attracts top talent. The position reports to the Chief Human Resource Officer.

     

     

    • Establishing scalable, long-range human resource strategies and practices for the organization.
    • Meeting the complex demands of rapid growth while maintaining high talent, engagement, and performance and culture standards.
    • Evolving the existing processes to bring a more scalable, compliant and simple set of processes and tools for both immediate and ongoing growth needs of the company.
    • Building, leading and organizing an HR team that is closely aligned to the businesses and consistently delivers high value HR services, systems and results.
    • Overseeing all aspects of Human Resources including, HR Operations, Employee Relations, Policy.
    • Lead and develop the human resource team to effectiveness to help the company achieve continued financial growth while maintaining its productive team environment.
    • Partners with HR leadership to design and implement the human capital strategy across the organization. Provides input based on business needs and regional requirements and drives leadership commitment to the strategy. Collaborates with HR leadership and Business Leaders to design and execute retention and engagement strategies to continually develop and retain high performer and high potential talent.
    • Partners with Business Leaders to lead change initiatives and implements effective change management and communication practices.
    • Drives team effectiveness practices, including leadership coaching, team styles and decision making, and competency development to improve organizational performance.
    • Able to use analytics to impact decision-making, beyond collecting data, it is using data to improve business decision.
    • Ensure that HR practices comply with government laws, actively educate Managers on how to stay within legal guidelines regarding on the job behavior

    Qualifications

    • 15+ years of leadership experience with high-growth start-up and large global organizations with US HR headquarters function; recent experience Head of the HR function in Mexico.
    • Banking/Fintech/Financial experience preferred
    • Undergraduate degree or relevant experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
    • Bilingual (English & Spanish).  Fluency (written/ verbal communication) is required and ability to effectively present information to various audiences.
    • Strong functional HR knowledge, business acumen, personal credibility, and outstanding leadership skills.
    • Prior experience scaling an HR organization with systems and processes.
    • Prior experiencing implementing scalable solutions in a hands-on, highly collaborative growth environment.
    • Reputation as a strong decisive, results oriented HR leader with strong understanding of the business. Detail oriented and tactical, but also very strategic.
    • Track record of leading HR strategy and initiatives, driving organizational people related results and leading people.
    • Ability to deal with ambiguity and strong decision making capability.
    • Demonstrated consulting skills and ability to provide coaching, feedback and guidance to leaders at all levels of the organization.
